Boutique terms and definitions

Buy-in, Buy in: Collective ordering. Multiple shops come together to share the purchase burden on items that are usually a difficult MOQ to fill. Sometimes buy ins are conducted publicly with retail buyers, see Pre-order.

Destash: to de-stash. Get rid of your stash. Usually by marking down cost, bundling with other items, or bulk selling. Destash does not mean wholesale cost only.

Destash Group: A Facebook group that permits multiple sellers to sell their inventory in that group. They vary wildly in terms of guidelines so make sure you are aware of each group's requirements.

Dropship: Selling items that aren't held in your inventory, and that are shipped by a third party.

MOQ: Minimum order quantity. The minimum amount of an item you may purchase wholesale. Some companies use an MOQ with mixed sizing/colors, some may require one of each size/color for every order.

Net Terms: a purchasing agreement between a supplier and a store owner. Payment is usually due according to the terms, measured in days. Net30, Net60, Net90 are 30, 60, and 90 days respectively.

Pre-order: Taking payment for an item that has not been ordered from the supplier yet. Also, see Buy in.

RTS: Ready to ship. An item that usually doesn't have longer than a 3 to 5 day processing window and is in the seller's possession, and/or in the drop shipper's possession.
